The 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals in the EPI INDUSTRIES Group family of companies
In 2015, the United Nations General Assembly approved the 2030 Agenda as an Action Plan for Sustainable Development in the social, environmental and economic environments.
The 2030 Agenda is an evolution of the United Nations Global Compact and identifies 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and sets out 169 targets to be achieved by 2030.
The implementation of the Action Plan falls on this occasion, not only through public administrations, such as states and governments, but also through civil society and, for the first time, through companies.
Businesses are the economic engine of today's world. Our role, therefore, is fundamental. Whether we are a large, medium or small company, to the extent that our structure and resources allow, we can implement actions that are aligned with those SDGs that we can influence. And we can disseminate them. It is as important to do as it is to disseminate.
During this fiscal year 2019, our Group of Companies, EPI INDUSTRIES family of companies, has decided to incorporate the SDGs within the Strategic Plans for the future. This is our particular commitment to help the promotion, development and implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
Within a three-year timeframe, from 2020 to 2022, we have set three SDGs to work on in the area of social responsibility. These are SDG 3: Health and Well-being, SDG 4: Quality Education, and SDG 5: Gender Equality. Indirectly, we had already been working on these SDGs historically through numerous actions integrated into the Group's organizational culture. That is why we have called them genetic SDGs.
However, the real challenge we have set ourselves for this period is to work on 3 other SDGs from the perspective of business opportunities. Our team has selected SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, SDG 7: Clean and Affordable Energy, and SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.
From now on, we will focus our efforts on promoting business initiatives linked to these SDGs, disseminating them in our environment to encourage the business community to incorporate the SDGs into their strategic plans.
In September we will organize a conference in which different companies will present and share experiences under the title "EPIfoc: the challenge of the SDGs as a business opportunity".
And in the September Newsletter of ADALIS Industrial Solutions we will explain the conclusions of such an exciting day.
